THE SEARCH
Picture Hunt
I started by looking through my photo albums because I've always had this habit of saving pictures that looks interesting or could inspire me. There were at least a couple thousand of them in my phone and more in my iPad. I was also looking at the pictures that I bookmarked in Rednote (a Chinese app) and found some that are interesting. Based on those pictures, I created an album just for this assignment and organized them a bit.
I did all this in a work period, during which I unfortunately didn't bring my iPad, so I couldn't start editing the pictures and the digital drawing right away.
Sketch 1
Then I was just looking through the pictures repeatedly and started sketching on my notebook (thank goodness I carry it around all the time, along with my pencil case).
The first sketch I did was inspired by this picture:

The back of this dress reminded me of spines, and the wing-like structure looks like the eclipse. So I combined the two. Later on I wanted to add a background, and found this picture I took when I was home.
Sketch 2
For this sketch, at first I was just drawing a picture of a subway station from back home. Then as I was drawing, the dome-like structures reminded me of a fan. So I immediately looked up pictures of fans and found one that I liked, added that to the drawing.

I was looking through the pictures and I really liked this one:
So I decided to add some lily elements into my drawing. I found these on Rednote and figured the distribution and shape of the petals are very similar to the fan. And what if i make the fan slowly turn into a lily? Hence the final look of this sketch. Also, by the end the stamens seemed like clock's hands, hence I added the numbers around the fower-fan to add some clock elements.
Here are some other images I selected for later on:
